To detect the presence of carbohydrate, proteins and starch in given compound A, B, and C.

Experiment – 15

Class – XII

Subject – Chemistry

Aim:-

To detect the presence of carbohydrate, proteins and starch in given compound A, B, and C.

Apparatus:-

Test tube, test tube stand, test tube holder, burner, beaker, litmus paper, match box, watch glass etc.

Test for Carbohydrates Group

Sr. No

Experiment

Observation

Inference

1.

Fehling’s Test:

A small amount of Fehling ‘s solution was taken in test tube given organic compound was added & test tube was warmed

A red ppt was appear in compound A.

Carbohydrates confirmed

`2.

Schiff  Test:

The given compound was dissolved in clean test tube & Schiff reagent was added.

Pink, red or magneta Color was appeared in compound A

Carbohydrates Confirmed.

3.

Tollen’s Test:

Silver Nitrate solution was placed in test tube & dil. NaOH was also added to form brown ppt dil. Ammonia solution was added until the brown ppt dissolves the given liquid was added & test tube warmed.

A shiny silver mirror was appeared in compound A

Carbohydrates confirmed

Test for Protein

1.

Xanthoprotic Test:

Take about 2ml of egg albumin dispersion was taken a few drops of conc. H2So4 was added & then heated.

Yellow colored ppt was obtained in compound B.

Protein Confirmed.

2.

Biuret Test:

Take egg albumin sample was taken & NaOH solution was added & few drops of cuSo4 solution was added to it.

Bluish violet color was appeared in compound B.

Protein confirmed.

3.

Millon’s Test:

A small amount of egg albumin sample was taken & few drops of Millon’s reagent was added.

White ppt observed in compound B.

Protein confirmed.

Test of Starch

1.

Iodine test:

In the solution suspension add few drops of the Iodine solution.

Blue color was appear in compound C

Starch Confirmed.

Conclusion:

On the basis of above test we conclude that given compound contain.

Compound A       à           Contain Carbohydrate

Compound B       à            Contain Protein

Compound C       à            Contain Starch.
